In the field of orthopaedics, the nurse practitioners play a central role in providing direct patient care and contribute significantly to improving the quality of treatment, particularly in an hospital setting. As highly qualified professionals with a Master of Science in Nursing with a clinical focus, a Master of Science in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy or a Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) in Clinical Specialisation, they take on a wide range of tasks. They apply their expert knowledge in complex nursing and medical situations, making them an essential part of the orthopaedic medical team.
Their daily tasks include ward rounds, during which they care for patients together with the doctors. They conduct detailed anamnesis, record medication histories and ensure that all relevant health information is taken into account to enable precise treatment.
A particularly important part of their work is discharge management. Nurse practitioners ensure that patients are fully informed and as well prepared as possible before they are discharged. They offer guidance and coaching to make the transition after hospitalisation as smooth as possible and to ensure that all the necessary information for aftercare and further treatment is available.
Before an operation, they provide patients with detailed information about the planned procedure, answer any questions and ensure that the necessary support is in place. If required, they organise follow-up care, such as coordinating Spitex services or rehabilitation stays.
After the operation, the nurse practitioners are responsible for regular wound and progress checks to ensure that the healing process is proceeding optimally. They supervise the progress and intervene if necessary to identify and avoid complications at an early stage.
In collaboration with the attending physicians, our clinical experts also conduct first consultations. This makes it possible to schedule appointments more quickly and ensures that patients receive comprehensive care right from the start.
With their expertise and holistic approach to care, they play a key role in ensuring high-quality, individually tailored orthopaedic care. Their work ensures that you, as a patient, receive the best possible care and are optimally prepared for every phase of your treatment.
